Welcome to Our Older Preschool Program (3.5 to 5 Years Old)
In the Waratah Program, we understand that the preschool years are a time of tremendous growth and development. Our Older Preschool Program is specially designed for children aged 3.5 to 5 years, providing a rich and engaging environment that prepares children for the transition to kindergarten. Led by a qualified Early Childhood Teacher, our program offers a balanced blend of Intentional teaching, play-based activities, and social experiences that foster independence, creativity, and a love of learning.
Our program is guided by an experienced Early Childhood Teacher who is passionate about creating an environment that supports each child’s unique development. The teacher leads a curriculum that integrates learning through play, exploration, and hands-on activities that promote intellectual, emotional, social, and physical growth.
At this age, play is essential for their learning and development. Our program uses play-based learning and intentional teaching to foster creativity, critical thinking, and social interaction. Children engage in activities that spark their curiosity and encourage independent thinking, whether it’s building structures with blocks, role-playing in dramatic play, or solving puzzles.
Reading and communication are fundamental skills in the preschool years. Our program places a strong emphasis on language development, including expanding vocabulary, developing listening skills, and introducing early literacy concepts like letter recognition, rhyming, and storytelling. Children engage in daily storytime, sing songs, and participate in activities that build literacy in a fun, interactive way.
Through hands-on activities, children explore basic math concepts such as counting, sorting, shapes, and patterns. We encourage problem-solving skills through games, puzzles, and real-world experiences that promote critical thinking and logic.
At this stage, children are learning how to navigate their emotions and interact with others. Our teachers provide a supportive environment where children learn to manage feelings, develop empathy, share, take turns, and collaborate with peers. We also introduce concepts of responsibility and respect, helping children build positive relationships with others.
Our program helps children develop both fine and gross motor skills. Through activities like drawing, cutting, building, and outdoor play, children refine their coordination, balance, and muscle strength, preparing them for more complex tasks as they grow.
Creativity is an important part of our curriculum. Children are encouraged to express themselves through art, music, and imaginative play. Whether they are painting, singing, or acting out stories, our program provides many opportunities for creative exploration.
